The picture that accompanies this column is a photo taken of our 4-year-old grandson on his first day of school this year. Still so young, so innocent, he’s holding hands with his best friend whom he met last year, making their way to the school’s front doors.
With the news last week that a local female attorney, Angela Mia Villarreal, won’t have to serve any prison time for killing a man in May 2022 after she plowed into his SUV from behind, you have to ask: Is the Hidalgo County Courthouse the place you want to land if you drive drunk and kill someone?
What a tragedy. A 71-year-old man living in rural Edinburg, northeast of the city, stumbles across some Killer Bees on Monday around 1 p.m. and ends up dead. I don’t even know the victim, and yet, I want to raise my face to the heavens and scream, “How is any of this fair?”
Seriously, though, there is an uptick in COVID-19 cases in Hidalgo County and in other parts of the state as well, and who can rejoice over that?
