The former Pharr police chief is suing the city in state district court (the 275 ), claiming they de-appointed him in June back to his previous rank of lieutenant because he was blowing the whistle on the city, telling Texas Rangers that Interim City Manager Ed Wylie was (allegedly) breaking the law by misusing public information. The city denies it.
During these difficult times, it’s important to stay positive for the sake of one’s own mental health. Thankfully, my mind plays along – “Okay, here’s something positive. You are going to die.” Thanks, but that’s not what I had in mind. “Plus, you will owe taxes next year.” Still no help.
What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago, The Advance News published a profile piece about Vanguard Academy Public Charter Schools’ number-one ranking in the South Texas region (Region 1), with an A+ rating of 97 (out of 100).
If convicted of killing 15-year-old Liza Cavazos this past Sunday, it’s doubtful that 37-year-old Maricella Escobar will get off as lightly as she did following her three previous DWI convictions. Also in Sunday’s wreck, a 14-year-old teen, Santiago Tapia, was seriously injured in the collision, from which Texas DPS said Escobar fled the scene. Tapia was transported to an area hospital.
So here’s a question. It’s a break from COVID news, but then again, there’s still a little bit of COVID attached to it; but not much.
