Twenty-Two people die of COVID-19 complications; 404 test positive for the virus

FRIDAY, 8-07-2020
EDINBURG Twenty-two residents have died today due to COVID-19 complications, while 404 learned they have tested positive for the virus, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Thursday. This brings the total number of positive cases to 19,103.

“My most sincere condolences to the loved ones of the 22 Hidalgo County neighbors,” Judge Cortez said. “If you have fully recovered from COVID-19, you may be able to help patients currently fighting the infection by donating your plasma. Because you fought the infection, your plasma now contains COVID-19 antibodies. These antibodies may be able to be used to help others fight off the disease.”

There are currently 745 people hospitalized with complications from the virus; 266 of those cases are being treated in intensive care units. Seven hundred thirty-six Hidalgo County residents have been released from isolation which means they have been symptom-free for 10 days, including three days without a fever.
