County Clerk implements new procedures to help prevent and slow the spread of COVID-19

FRIDAY, 7-24-2020

EDINBURG – Beginning Monday, July 27th the Hidalgo County Clerk Official Records Department will only accept Real Property recordings electronically and via U.S. mail in an effort to help prevent and slow the spread of COVID-19.

“Our staff has gone above and beyond to assist with recordings, including going out to vehicles to pick up records being dropped off,” said Hidalgo County Clerk Arturo Guajardo, Jr. “However, taking into account the level of disease transmission in our community, we have revised our operations with an eye to the safety of both our staff and the public.”

Guajardo knows first-hand the toll that the virus can take, having recently recovered from COVID-19.

“This virus is unlike anything I had ever gone through before and never want to experience again,” Guajardo said. “I support Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez and Commissioners Court efforts to reduce the spread with the shelter in place order for non-essential workers. We all need to do our part.”

Marriage Licenses and Birth Records will be issued by appointment only. Call (956) 292-7676 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to schedule an appointment. For Court Records, call (956) 318-2100.
