COVID-19 takes the lives of 20 more people in Hidalgo County; another 283 test positive for the virus

WEDNESDAY, 8-12-2020 

EDINBURG As COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to rise, Hidalgo County Health officials report that twenty people have died today due to complications related to COVID-19 and 283 people tested positive for the virus. The total number of known positive cases is 20,431.

 “Even one death from COVID-19 is one too many. I express my deepest condolences to the 20 families for the loss of their loved one. Know that our hearts and thoughts are with you,” Judge Cortez said. “Remember to wear a mask, wash your hands, practice physical distancing, avoid large gatherings, stay home if you’re sick, and keep your children home if they feel sick. We can only beat COVID-19 by working together.”

 There are currently 4,484 net active cases and 273 people were released from isolation on Tuesday, meaning that they have been symptom-free for 10 days, including three days without a fever. There are currently 605 people hospitalized with complications from the virus; 226 of those cases are being treated in intensive care units.
