Twenty-eight more people die from complications of COVID-19 while 111 more test positive in Hidalgo County

EDINBURG — Another 28 deaths from complications of COVID-19 were reported over the weekend while 111 new positive cases were logged, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Sunday. Both the death and infection rate reflect two days of activity since health officials took Saturday off.

“I decided to lift the county’s Shelter at Home mandate when new safety orders go into effect one minute after midnight tonight, with added safety measures for our Winter Texan guests arriving in the county,” Judge Cortez said. “But these numbers should offer a warning that this deadly disease hasn’t gone away and we should all continue to exercise caution when leaving our homes.”

With the winter Texans coming soon we made safety precaution

The latest case totals bring the count of people in the county who have died from this disease to 1,409. The total number of people who have knowingly contracted the disease in Hidalgo County now stands at 29,446.
