Twenty-three more people in Hidalgo County die from COVID-19 complications; 209 test positive

 FRIDAY, 9-25 -2020

EDINBURG Hidalgo County’s death toll surpassed the 1,600 mark as another 23 people perished from COVID-19 related complications while 209 new positive cases were logged, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Thursday.

“I remain very concerned with the growing number of deaths from this virus, but I am told that many of the deaths that we are recording these days come from a backlog of cases with the state,” Judge Cortez said. “That’s not to minimize the tragedy of these deaths, but to explain that our numbers are actually improving. Still, my prayers are with the families of those who have died.”

The 23 additional deaths brings the total death count from this disease to 1,611 people. The total number of known positive cases stands at 31,371. The number of people hospitalized from the disease dropped slightly to 175 from 179 on Wednesday; the number being treated in intensive care units went up to 73 from 62 patients a day before.
