City of McAllen makes spot on ‘Best Places to Live’ list

The city of McAllen recently earned some nationwide recognition, according to a recent release.

The city said Wednesday that it ranked No. 27 in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026–2027 Best Places to Live list. More so, the city McAllen ranks No. 11 among Texas communities.

“McAllen is a community where opportunity, safety, afford ability and quality of life come to gether to create a place people are proud to call home,” said Mayor Javier Villalobos.

“Our vision, Next Is Now, reflects our commitment to building on that foundation and investing in the future of our community. From economic growth and public safety to our parks, cultural amenities and vibrant quality of life, we are creating a city where families can thrive and where Aquí Se Vive Mejor. This recognition is a testament to the people of McAllen and the work we are doing together to make our city even better,” he said.

The rankings are based on four major criteria, which are quality of life, value, desirability and job market strength. The rankings draw data from public and private sources, as well as resident input.

City Manager Isaac J. Tawil shared the same sentiment as the mayor.

“McAllen continues to distinguish itself as a community where families can thrive, businesses can grow and people can enjoy an exceptional quality of life. Being ranked among the top 30 places to live in the nation is a reflection of the thoughtful investments and longterm planning taking place throughout our city.”

Last year, the city ranked 20th and the year prior, it ranked 48.
