Comptroller distributes $1.1B in monthly sales tax revenue

Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for April, 10.5 percent more than in April 2025.
These allocations are based on sales made in February by businesses that report tax monthly.
How did other cities fare? Through a comparative lens between the same reporting period last year (April 2025) and this year (April 2026), certain cities saw some changes.
Here’s a look at some cities:
• Austin up 19.06 percent
• Brownsville up 12.28 percent • Dallas up 7.32 percent
• El Paso up 18.86 percent
• Houston up 5.98 percent
• Laredo up 2.64 percent
• San Antonio down 6.80 percent
