Pharr breaks ground on new multi-use facility

Set to be completed in 2028

PHARR — There’s going to be some new digs here after the city held a groundbreaking ceremony for a multi-use facility.

Local leaders, project partners and other officials gathered last Wednesday to commemorate the City of Pharr’s new Multi-Use Facility.

The project, which began construction last month, is designed to support municipal operations, emergency preparedness, and community programming, the city said.

The 83,567-square-foot facility is located at the corner of US Highway 281 and Ferguson Avenue.

According to a release by the city, the new facility will have a modern take — with the respective amenities — to cater to the community and those who utilize the building.

For example, the place will have large operable partitions, audiovisual systems, mezzanine- level viewing areas and broadcast-ready capabilities.

In the same release, the city said that the facility’s primary functions include:

• Emergency operations support

• Customer service functions for municipal services

• Cultural and educational programming

• Civic gatherings More so, the facility will be a utilization tool when it comes to emergency coordination, preparedness efforts and regional response initiatives.

“ The project is expected to generate approximately 400 to 500 construction- related jobs throughout the duration of the build, while also creating indirect economic opportunities for local suppliers, contractors, and service providers,” the city said.

It is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2028.
