Sniper opens fire on Dallas ICE facility

Three detainees shot with one dead; gunman dies to self-inflicted gun wound

A sniper opened fire on a Dallas ICE facility Tuesday morning in what has been reported by the Department of Homeland Security as a "targeted attack."

The suspect, who has been identified by multiple outlets as Joshua Jahn, allegedly opened fire from a nearby rooftop on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Dallas. Three detainees were shot; with one dead and two in critical condition.

The gunman was found dead with a self-inflicted gun wound, according to a DHS report. Jahn allegedly fired at the ICE building, including at a van in the sallyport where the victims were shot.

"We can confirm that three detainees were shot while inside the van," ICE said in a Sept. 24 post on X. "Of the three, one has been confirmed deceased and two are in critical condition."

It has been reported that no ICE officers were injured.

“Our prayers are with the families of those killed and our ICE law enforcement. This vile attack was motivated by hatred for ICE,” said Secretary Noem. “For months, we’ve been warning politicians and the media to tone down their rhetoric about ICE law enforcement before someone was killed.

This shooting must serve as a wake-up call to the far-left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences."

Noem also said that comparing ICE to Nazis has consequences. She also shared her condonlences to those who were victims of the attack.

"Comparing ICE Day-in and day-out to the Nazi Gestapo, the Secret Police, and slave patrols has consequences. The men and women of ICE are fathers and mothers, sons and daughters," she said in a release. "They get up every morning to try and make our communities safer. Like everyone else, we just want to go home to our families at night. The violence and dehumanization of these men and women who are simply enforcing the law must stop. We are praying for the victims and their families.”

Pictures by DHS show that shell casings were found at the scene with anti-ICE messages on them.

It has also been reported that this is not the first attack on facility — last month a bomb threat was also made. The suspect, Bratton Dean Wilkinson, arrived at the Dallas Field Office and allegedly claimed to have a bomb in his backpack. The 36-year-old male was taken into custody.

The motive for Wednesday's shooting remains unknown.
