Pharr Housing Authority hosts 'Strong Families Initiative'
The Pharr Housing Authority recently hosted a community event for its residents and families.
The HUD “Strong Families Initiative” was held on July 26, at the Pharr Development and Research Center, located at 850 W. Dicker Road in Pharr.
Approximately 200 guests were in attendance, and they enjoyed resources, information from various vendors and agencies, as well as complimentary food and refreshments and exciting raffles.
The purpose of the event is to encourage and promote self-sufficiency among Pharr Housing Authority residents and tenants.
Vendors from 29 organizations were on hand to provide information and services to housing residents, including insurance groups, local dentists’ offices, community-building charities, and employment assistance providers.
A highlight of the event was the raffle. Winning attendees were treated to prizes such as a TV, blender, air fryer, Barbie doll house, Keurig coffee machine, mini fridge, child’s bike, tablet, among other prizes.
“We are always looking for ways to promote community and self-sufficiency among our residents, and we are grateful to our partners for providing information and resources benefiting our families,” said Pharr Housing Authority Interim Director Lazaro Guerra.
According to The U.S. Department of Housing and Development (HUD), the Strong Families Initiative aims to strengthen, empower, and improve the quality of life of families living in HUD-assisted housing communities by providing access to a variety of services through a strategic collaborative approach in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment. HUD Strong Families events are designed to empower families with resources to ensure positive opportunities.
