ReFest is set for Saturday at Quinta Mazatlán
Meet nature’s clean-up crew at ReFest, featuring Sky King’s Falconry, on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Quinta Mazatlán, located at 600 Sunset Dr.
There is a $5 admission fee, or bring a plastic bag or bottle to be recycled at the festival for a free ticket.
At ReFest, guests will enjoy an upcycled marketplace with vendors, sustainable trade show and native plants for sale. Children will have fun playing in the cardboard playscape, tinker in the recycled tech space, create recycled art and have fun learning about the importance of recycling and sustainability.
One of the attractions at ReFest will be Sky King’s Falconry. Offering three shows throughout the day, the presentation will feature vultures, which actually both wildlife and human communities. These birds of prey are known as scavengers who feed on dead animals or carrion, which plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of ecosystems.
Sky King’s Falconry three shows will be at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. at ReFest.
They will introduce vultures and other birds of prey, including a residential Crested Caracara, a member of the falcon family, who behave similar to vultures in consuming carcasses. Their scavenging activity controls spread of disease, helps to recycle nutrients back into the soil, and acts as natural waste management. The presence of nature’s clean-up crew supports biodiversity and enhances ecosystem resilience, which all life is dependent on.
