Summer Acting Camps for youth offered at Pharr Community Theater

This summer, in June and July, the Pharr Community Theater Co. will offer two summer acting camps, one for kids and one for teens. Students will learn about theater and movie production including acting, movement and vocal warm-ups, practicing scenes, writing dialogue and directing.

The first camp for kids, boys and girls, (ages 9-12) will run from June 12-27;Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a. m. to 11 a. m.

The second camp for teens, boys and girls, (ages 13-17) will run from July 10-25; Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a. m. to 11 a. m.

Both 12-hour camps will culminate with a half-hour recital on the last day of class, for parents and friends. The cost per student is $150. Class size is limited to the first 12 to register. Complimentary water, juices and fresh fruit will be offered during class. Class will be held at the Pharr Community Theater, 213 W Newcombe Ave. Pharr, TX The workshop will be instructed by Jonathan Ovando. Screen Actor Guild member, PCT Co-Founder and Artistic Director, Pedro Garcia, will also assist with a couple hours of instruction during the camps.

Ovando Bio

Jonathan Ovando began his acting career in 2009 and has since contributed to numerous stage and film productions as an actor, director, editor, and coordinator, specializing in both stage direction and production. He has also been involved in Theatre for YoungAudiences (TYA). Jonathan earned a BA in Theatre Arts Performance from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2021 and an MFAin TheatreArts Performance and Pedagogy from Texas Tech University in 2024. His notable performances include A Wrinkle in Time, Water by the Spoonful, The Impostor, and The Marriage of Bette and Boo, among many others.
