Haley Velasquez will be earning her General Education Diploma (GED) at the end of the month after completing the Adult Education program at South Texas College; and thanks to a Dollar General Foundation Adult Education and Literacy Grant, which made this once impossible journey for Velasquez achievable.

In the debris trail of its recent decision to reverse a 50-year old marquee ruling on abortion “rights,” the highest court in the land issued another decision just days later on the increasingly blurred separation between church and state—in particular, public prayer. The former was met with cheers, jeers, protests, and, sadly, moral discord; the latter with very little reaction by comparison. Both decisions are tied inextricably to the 14th Amendment to our Constitution which guarantees American citizens certain “liberties,” such as freedom of religion, speech, and the press.
