Five PSJA ISD high schools ranked among top in state and nation

Not only do students get ranked for their performance, but schools do as well.

The 2025 US News & World Report rankings were released recently and with nearly 18,000 high schools evaluated across the country — one local district had five make the list.

The five Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District saw impressive marks for their institutions.

The report rankings grade and evaluate high schools based on their performance in regard to state assessments, graduation rates and preparation for college through coursework such as Advance Placement classes and other programs, such as dual enrollment, in which students have the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school.

“Through PSJA ISD’s Nationally Recognized Early College Program, students have the opportunity to graduate with up to 60 college credit hours or an Associate Degree from higher education partner South Texas College before earning their high school diploma, helping prepare students for success at the university level and beyond,” the district said in a release.

The rankings found PSJA T. Jefferson T-Stem Early College High School boasting a 116th rank in the state. According to the report, the high school also ranked 934th in the nation. In addition, they have a 100% graduation rate, with a College Readiness index of index — which is based on student performance on state-required tests, as well as exams on college-level coursework. Their grades 9-12 enrollment is 524.

PSJA Early College High School ranked 438th in the state, with a 98% graduation rate. Its College Readiness Index was at an 18.9, with enrollment sitting at 2,360. Their national rank was 4,973.

PSJA North Early College High School saw themselves at 570th in the state. The graduation rateisata97%,withaCollegeReadinessIndex of15.2Theenrollmentis2,229,accordingtothe report.Theirnationalrankingwas6,425.

Next, PSJA Southwest Early College High School ranked 706th in the state, and 8,098 in the nation. The graduation rate is a 95%, with a College Readiness Index of 15.7. The school’s enrollment is at 1,597.

Then, PSJA Memorial Early College High School ranked 734th in the state. With a graduation rate of 98% and a College Readiness Index of 16.2, the school ranked 8,311 in the nation. They had an enrollment of 1,946 students.

“We’re proud of our high schools for their rankings and continue to challenge ourselves every year to continue improving and providing the best for our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias in a release.
