Courageous battle: Mission CISD to honor Childhood Cancer Warriors at football game
September marks Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and a couple of school districts are helping spread the word this week.
Mission CISD, in collaboration with the Greater Gold Foundation, will honor childhood cancer survivors and help raise awareness during its “God Gold Mission High School Pre-game Program” at Tom Landry Stadium in Mission on Friday.
“The purpose of this special event is to recognize and support the brave Mission CISD students who are battling cancer or have survived it, in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month,” the district said in a release.
The district also said it has 10 students who are courageously battling cancer. In addition, they will be celebrated during the event — which will take place before the Mission Eagles take on the McAllen Memorial Mustangs during its game.
Speaking of McAllen, the district is also hosting a “McAllen Goes Gold Walk” on Sunday.
The walk is also in effort to raise awareness for childhood cancer.
It will be at the McAllen Convention Center. The event is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
