Donations sought: Food Bank RGV to host events in support of School Tools program

The Food Bank RGV is turning its keys and is ready to rev up some support for its School Tools program this Friday and Saturday.

With the school year around the corner, Food Bank RGV recently announced its two events — “Jam the Bus” and the “Cruising Back to School” show. Both events are an initiative by the food bank to provide eligible elementary schools in the Rio Grande Valley with school supplies for its students.

On Friday for “Jam the Bus,” the food bank will be at Main Event in Pharr along with Wild 104.1 to collect supplies from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food Bank RGV recently announced its partnership with iHeart radio stations, such as KTEX FM 100.3, KISS 105.5/106.3 and Wild 104.1 to the collection drive, according to a release.

Those who donate a bag of school supplies at the Main Event in Pharr or Brownsville during the time period will receive a 60-minute gameplay card as a “thank you,” the release said.

Food Bank RGV also announced that Valley businesses will also serve as donation sites and offer special promotions or incentives to show appreciation.

The businesses are:

• El Pollo Loco located at 601 W Nolana Ave, McAllen, TX: Donate a minimum of $5 worth of school supplies and receive a free “Pollo bowl.”

• Fazoli’s located at 1943 West Interstate 2, Pharr, TX: Donate a backpack and receive a free small pasta. Alternatively, donate 10 school supplies and receive a free dessert.

• Bubba’s 33 located at 2608 W. Expy 83, McAllen, TX: From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Donate one backpack and get one — 12-in pepperoni pizza, or make a $10 supply donation and get a free appetizer.

For those who miss the opportunity to donate on Friday, fear not, for the “Cruising Back to School” event is set for Saturday from 4-9 p.m. at Food Bank RGV located at 724 N. Cage. Blvd. in Pharr.

The show will feature a display of all makes, models, and years of cars, attracting car enthusiasts and community members alike, according to a release. The event offers an opportunity for car owners to showcase their prized vehicles to fellow enthusiasts and the community.

Food Bank RGV invites the public to participate in the event by bringing a donation of school supplies as admission. The donation will help support the initiative by the food bank.

Along with festivities, food trucks will be present so attendees can purchase food and drinks.
