City of Pharr set to host Independence Day festival

Event is slated for this Saturday

PHARR — This weekend will for sure go out with a bang as the City of Pharr is inviting the public to its Independence Day festival on Saturday.

In an effort to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary, the city encourages its residents and other visitors from the region to head over to Allen & William Arnold City/ School Park to get in on the festivities.

The park is located at 615 W. Eldora Road in Pharr. The event is set to start at 7 p.m. and will go on until 11 p.m.

The festival is free for attendees as participants can expect a night of live entertainment, carnival rides, food vendors, a petting zoo for the children, a drone show and of course, fireworks.

If you don’t plan ahead for this momentous occasion, then you’re going to arrive with headaches as events of this magnitude will result in road closures and some prolonged traffic.

“Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead as temporary road closures will be in effect to ensure the safety of festival attendees,” the city said in a release. “Motorists traveling through the surrounding area should expect delays and plan alternate routes.”

The road closures are as follows:

• W. Eldora Rd. between Sugar Rd. and Frontage Rd.

• Frontage Rd. (access into the area permitted; no exiting onto Frontage)

• Frontage Rd. exit will be closed from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
