San Juan native Luisa Montalvo wins Toastmasters District Speech Contest
Special to the Advance
Luisa Montalvo does it again.
Toastmasters International, a non-profit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping people develop skills in communication, public speaking, and leadership, held its District Conference and Speech Contest in Corpus Christi on May 18. Only five members from 110 clubs in District 55, which covers a great part of the state of Texas, have the opportunity to compete in the International Speech Contest. Luisa won first place at this contest and is now at the Regional Contest level which is one step away from the making it to the big stage for the Toastmasters International World Championship of Public Speaking.
In 2019, Luisa Montalvo came in a few votes short and took the Second Place trophy on the grand stage; however, Luisa still yearns to get back on her saddle and ride to the top.
Luisa is a member of Hub City Toastmasters which meet every Wednesday at noon on the second floor of the Pharr Memorial Library. She can also been seen attending Metro Toastmasters that meet on Mondays at noon at the Chamber of Commerce and Alpha Toastmasters that meet at CHCP every Tuesday at 7 p.m. — both in McAllen.
Guests are always invited and always welcome to visit and participate in these enjoyable weekly meetings.
