Special to the Advance
On May 16, the Pan American Round Table of Alamo-San Juan-Pharr (P.A.R.T. of A.S.J.P.) honored two students from Southwest High School of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District. D’banhy Ocanas and Karla Mascorro each received a $1,000 scholarship to further their education.

Karla Mascorro plans to attend UTRGV and major in Education. Her goal is to be a secondary high school teacher/professor. She obtained collegiate hours with the Southwest Early College High School under the Distinguished Level of Achievement. She enjoys dancing, drawing and painting.
Each year, the P.A.R.T of A.S.J.P. awards scholarships to two deserving high school graduating seniors. The high school is selected on a rotation basis from five high schools in the P.S.J.A. Independent School District. The amount of the scholarships is based on the availability of funds.
The scholarship committee works with the financial aid officer of the respective high school in selecting the students. Annually, table members set a goal to raise funds to help students achieve their dreams in attaining a college degree for a successful career.
The purpose of the Pan American Round Table of Texas is to acquaint its members with the language, geography, history, literature, art, culture and customs of the countries of the Western hemisphere through knowledge, understanding is gained and understanding leads to friendship. To further knowledge and understanding, members diligently work on humanitarian projects and award scholarships to deserving students.
The club’s motto is: “ALL FOR ONE & ONE FOR ALL”— UNA PARA TODAS Y TODAS PARA UNA”.
