Put 'em up: Edinburg set to host Amateur Boxing Junior Olympics

EDINBURG — The City of Edinburg is ready to rumble.

The Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with the South Texas Amateur Boxing Association (STABA), is set to host the Amateur Boxing Junior Olympics this weekend in a showcase that is sure to impress.

With over 300 scheduled matches and 478 registered participants expected to attend, STABA has announced that the event has set a record registration number in South Texas as the largest regional tournament in the country.

The community is encouraged to attend the opening ceremony at 315 Mark S. Pena Drive at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Participating boxers, ages 8 to 16, will be organized by age, weight class, and gender, and will compete for championship medals, championship jackets, and trophies.

The first match begins on Friday at 6 p.m. Tickets for the event are $12 per day, or $25 for a 3-day pass. Children ages 5 years and under enter for free. Tickets can be purchased at www.topboxtickets. com.

Competitions will begin at the following times each day:

• Friday, May 3 — 6 p.m.

• Saturday, May 4 — 1 p.m. • Sunday, May 5 — 1 p.m.
