McAllen Police Department officers responded to a residence Thursday after receiving reports of animal cruelty.

The officers responded to the 300 block of Fern Avenue, and requested assistance from various McAllen departments, including Animal Care Services, according to a release.

Upon investigating the residence, officers discovered numerous animals which included dogs, cats and birds.

One individual has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing, the release said.

"The animals are in the process of being relocated to the Palm Valley Animal Society and other animal shelters where they will be cared for pending disposition of this matter," the release said.

Last week, McAllen PD also responded to a residence at the 3400 block of Ozark Avenue in which 94 animals — 93 dogs and one cat — were hoarded inside the home.
