Attorney Israel ‘EZ’ Rivas suspends campaign for Precinct 2 JP; endorses Zambrano

PHARR — Pharr attorney and businessman Israel “EZ” Rivas has announced that he has suspended his pursuit to fill the unexpired term that was vacated by the passing of longtime Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, Place 1, Bobby Contreras.

“I am humbled and appreciative of the immense support I received when I announced my intent to run, but for me, at this moment, the timing is not ideal,” said Rivas.

“After much consideration and discussion with my family and loved ones, I have made the decision that there may be a better moment in the future to pursue a run for political office, when the time comes. Right now, as a father with a son aspiring to soon go to law school, I want to dedicate my personal time to focus on helping him through law school and to establish himself in the profession and get started in the right direction.”

Rivas said he knows how hard it is for a new attorney just starting out in the profession.

' I know firsthand how difficult it is to navigate the legal system when first starting out, and I am dedicated to devoting my efforts to help give my son the best chance at success.”

Rivas said he is thankful, however, for the support he received after announcing his campaign.

“I want to thank my family, friends, and everyone who extended their support of my candidacy,” he said. “ My desire to serve in public office remains, and I look forward to pursuing office when the right time and the right opportunity arise. Stay tuned!”

For now, leading into the March Democrat Primary, “EZ” Rivas said he is throwing his support behind the Jorge Zambrano campaign.

“For now, I would like to encourage everyone to join me in supporting who I believe is the best candidate for the job, and I hereby endorse Judge Jorge Zambrano for Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Place 1.”
