Comptroller distributes $1.2B in monthly sales tax revenue

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced last Wednesday that he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for May, 0.4 percent more than in May 2023.

These allocations are based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly and sales made in January, February and March by quarterly filers.

In case you're interested in how other Texas cities compared for the same reporting period, May 2023 vs. May 2024, Austin was up 9.11 percent, Brownsville down -0.27 percent, Dallas up 4.02 percent, El Paso down -1.60 percent, Houston down -4.97 percent, Laredo up 3.86 percent, and San Antonio up 1.20 percent.
