Comptroller distributes $1.2B in monthly sales tax revenue
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for August, 0.3 percent less than in August 2023.
These allocations are based on sales made in June by businesses that report tax monthly and on sales made in April, May and June by quarterly filers.
In case you're interested in how other Texas cities compared for the same reporting period, August 2023 vs. August 2024, Austin was down 6.46 percent, Brownsville up 2.73 percent, Dallas up 5.13 percent, El Paso down 4.70 percent, Houston down 3.27 percent, Laredo up 1.42 percent, and San Antonio down 2.98 percent.
