Drug bust: CBP intercepts 47 pounds of cocaine at bridge

PHARR— The U.S. Customs and border Protection (CBP) officers here at the Pharr International Bridge conducted a search Friday that resulted in a seizure of $634,000 worth of alleged cocaine.

The CBP said in a release that the alleged narcotics was found concealed in a commercial tractor-trailer.

Officers at the bridge encountered the tractor trailer from Reynosa, Mexico on Aug. 7. The trailer was referred to secondary for further inspection. Anomalies within the tractor trailer resulted in a physical inspection, which resulted in 18 packages of alleged cocaine that weight about 47.47 pounds.

The narcotics and the vehicle were seized. Homeland Security Investigation is conducting an investigation.

“Our CBP officers continue to successfully use their skills and expertise to intercept another load of hard narcotics,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez in a release.
