Mujeres Unidas annual gala set for October

'Unmasking Domestic Violence'

Women Together/Mujeres Unidas Board of Directors and staff will be hosting this year’s annual gala entitled “Unmasking Domestic Violence” on Oct. 18 at the Valencia Event Center in McAllen

The event will include a sit-down dinner, music, and live/silent auction as well as recognition of several community leaders who have supported Mujeres Unidas throughout the years.

Although the event is designed to be entertaining, the impetus behind the event is serious. Violence in the home is a serious and deadly problem in our community. One out of four women and one out of nine men are victims of family violence.

In 2023, Mujeres Unidas provided services to over 12,000 individuals. Ending domestic violence and sexual abuse is possible but it requires a commitment from each and every one of us.

Since 1978, Women Together/Mujeres Unidas has been the only non-profit agency in Hidalgo County providing a 24-Hour Emergency Shelter and Crisis Hotline.

Since its inception, other supportive programs have been implemented such as Legal Advocacy, Transitional Housing, and Trauma Informed Counseling. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported Mujeres Unidas throughout the past 46 years and hope we can count on your continued support as we expand our services in our community.

So please make plans to come out and enjoy a funfilled evening at our annual gala and at the same time you will be supporting Mujeres Unidas and our vision to end violence so victims may live without fear, abuse, or oppression.

For sponsorship opportunities, to donate an auction item or to purchase tickets, feel free to reach out to any of our Board of Directors or you can contact Nelda Hernandez — Mujeres Unidas Resource Development Manager at (956) 630-4878 or email nhernandezfjc@yahoo.com.
