Pharr landmark goes up in smoke
PHARR — The City of Pharr and multiple mutual aid agencies responded to a major fire Saturday at Matt's Cash & Carry Building Materials in Pharr.
About 125 first responders and 15 agencies were on site to assist in the response as a regional effort. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A major incident such as this requires a multi-agency response, and city leaders are grateful for the regional effort to respond to this catastrophe.

The City of Pharr reported that the fire was 80% contained as of 9 p.m. on Saturday.
There were no reported injuries.
The ownership team of the Pharr business took to social media to show their gratefulness to all who responded to the incident.
Crews remained overnight working to contain the fire and roads remained closed. The Hidalgo County Community Service Agency is assisting with families who were displaced due to the fire and power turned off. Power was expected to be turned back on Sunday.
