Texas, Quinta Mazatlán honor native plants in October to support people and wildlife

Special to the Advance McALLEN — During the month of October, the Center for Urban Ecology at Quinta Mazatlán is celebrating native plants by planning educational events, hosting the annual Planta Natíva Social, hosting native plant sales, providing a native plant giveaway for schools and families, launching a Rio Grande Valley Native Garden Contest, and planting tiny forests to create habitat for birds, butterflies and all wildlife. In fact, the Rio Grande Valley is home to more than 1,200 native plants that provide habitat for wildlife.
