Texas Republicans are increasing their involvement in local races, hoping to do more to influence municipal and school board elections that have turned into political battlegrounds during the coronavirus pandemic.
EDINBURG — Nereida Lopez-Singleterry announced her candidacy Dec. 1 for Hidalgo County District Attorney in the upcoming March 2022 election. “It is with great honor that I seek the office of district attorney and have the opportunity to build upon the legacy of our current district attorney who recently announced that he will not be seeking re-election,” Lopez-Singleterry said. Her mission in becoming district attorney is to bring everyone in the justice system together so that Hidalgo County can function with one common goal; ensuring that justice prevails in all cases. Lopez-Singleterry previously served as the Associate Judge of Master Court 1 in Hidalgo County. She currently serves as Municipal Judge for the City of San Juan and operates a successful private practice where she represents people in all aspects of the law.
I’m not going to count this as a straight news story because my wife and I have known Sheila Vallés-Pankratz for more than a quarter of a century by now (how time flies), so I have to include some personal observations in this bit of news.
