McALLEN – The Federal Bureau of Investigation San Antonio Division, McAllen Resident Agency Office, wants to warn the public about a recent spike in “virtual kidnapping” extortion calls in the Rio Grande Valley. In the last several weeks, multiple law enforcement agencies have seen a rise in the number of victims reporting they have fallen prey to this scam and have been defrauded out of large sums of money.
