EDINBURG – With the help of a Border Patrol K-9, agents assigned to the Javier Vega, Jr. Checkpoint near Sarita, Texas, intercepted millions in cocaine that was destined for communities in the United States.
A semi-tractor/trailer approached the primary inspection lane at the Javier Vega, Jr. Checkpoint. Following a K-9 alert, the vehicle was referred for secondary inspection where 36 bundles of cocaine, weighing over 92 lbs. was discovered hidden amongst the cargo. The cocaine has an estimated value of $2,900,000. The driver and cocaine were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
