COVID-19 claims the lives of 25 more people in Hidalgo County; another 270 people test positive

 FRIDAY, 9-4-2020

EDINBURG As Labor Day approaches and concerns rise that people will celebrate the holiday weekend in large groups, Hidalgo County saw 25 more deaths related to COVID-19 and 270 more positive cases, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Thursday.

“While we’re experiencing a slower rate of death, infections and hospitalizations, the numbers we are reporting remain unacceptable,” Judge Cortez said. “I believe that we must take every precaution necessary to protect ourselves from this virus. That includes avoiding the temptation to celebrate the final holiday of the summer with large groups of people.”

Thursday’s new cases bring the total COVID-related death rate in Hidalgo County to 1,233 people and the total number of known infections to 28,178 people. There are now 257 people being treated for the virus in area hospitals; 99 of them are in intensive care units.
