For pilots, seeing a famous aviator is akin to sports fans seeing their favorite athlete play the game live and in person.
Such is my remembrance of the great aerobatic pilot Duane Cole.
In the late 1970s, throughout the 1980s, before the Confederate Air Force moved to Midland in 1991, for Valley pilots, the CAF October Airsho was the place to be if you wanted to drool over airplanes, and see the likes of Cole carve up the sky.
(The CAF airshow always dropped the “w,” turning it into Airsho.)
Side note: In 2001, the Confederate Air Force re-named itself the Commemorate Air Force,
