EDINBURG — The Museum of South Texas History will host an in-person Sunday Speaker Series presentation, “Mestizaje: Myth and Reality (or Novelas, Buddha comes to México, fajita tacos, and Selena),” featuring Gilberto Reyes Jr. at 2 p.m. on Sept. 5. This presentation is the second and last of a two-part lecture series titled “And the Giants Did Not Fall Down: Reflections on the Quincentenario of the Spanish Conquest of México.” The presentation will explore the term “mestizo,” which most accurately describes the essence of the group destined to become an ethnic majority in the U.S. by mid-century.
