If your money is sitting in an FDIC-insured bank, and a hacker gains access to your account, steals your money, will the bank make you whole, or will you simply be told there’s nothing the bank can do to help, so sorry?
Under federal law, “Regulation E,” if your account was indeed hacked, your money stolen by a fraudulent hacker, your bank should make you whole. The operative word here is “should,” whether it be as a result of federal regulations or the relatively simple practice of good public relations and the concept of “standing by one of your valued customers.”
