Guajardo Jr. seeks reelection as Hidalgo Co. Clerk
Arturo Guajardo, Jr. has filed paperwork with the democratic party seeking to be reelected to his fifth term as Hidalgo County Clerk.
Asked when he decided to run again, Guajardo said, “Since first being elected, I have never stop running for this office”; he explains that he has never taken for granted the support and trust that he has received from the Hidalgo County voters.
Prior to being elected in 2006, Guajardo held the position of Chief Deputy for the clerk’s office, which he accredits to being able to hit the ground running on day one in 2007. Guajardo states, “the taxpayers of Hidalgo County didn’t have to pay for any on the job training for me, I already had an agenda ready to go immediately upon taking office. I also promised to remain in this office and not seek election for another position until all of our projects were completed.”
Completing all of the projects he has started has been a commitment that Guajardo has planned to see through. He explains that each prior County Clerk had his own set of ideas and while all were great ideas, many gaps and inconsistencies were left behind in the official records depository. Consequently, the first project for Guajardo was to digitize all “OFFICIAL RECORDS,” garnering him recognition for being the first in the state to accomplish this enormous undertaking. Having all records in digital form enabled our office to provide free online access to these records 24/7.
As County Clerk, Guajardo has continued to seek out the latest in technology. His office was the first in the state to use the cloud to store official records. Guajardo initiated a countywide recycling program which received state and national recognition. He recently launched a fraud alert system for property records offered to the public free of charge. Guajardo’s vision has been to serve the public with the latest in technology which allows for efficient and seamless service in every department of the clerk’s office.
Guajardo has strived to provide the best possible service to the public, but this past year the clerk’s office was hit with uncertainty because of COVID-19. Guajardo addressed the unprecedented ordeal with solutions to continue serving the public. He first ensured that all employees were protected and kept safe. Second, Guajardo had two walk up windows and a drive-up window installed at the records management building so that the clerk’s services could continue with no interruptions.
Guajardo said, “It has been a tremendous honor and privilege to serve you for the past 15 years. During this time, our team has implemented an array of technological advances to improve the quality and efficiency of our service to the people of Hidalgo County. I remain committed to providing quick and easy access to your public records while ensuring that all permanent records are preserved and protected for generations to come.”
