City of McAllen Parks and Recreation Department announces Summer programs

The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce its lineup of over 500 summer programs designed to engage and entertain residents of all ages. From youth activities, adult leagues, to senior programs, there’s something for everyone this summer.
Registration for all programs is open to both residents and non-residents of McAllen. Interested participants can register online at www. mcallenparks.net, at any hour of the day or night, 365 days a year, or in-person by visiting the McAllen Parks and Recreation office, located at 2001 Trophy Drive, McAllen, TX 78504. Youth and Senior Programs
The Lark, Las Palmas, and Palm View community centers are offering a variety of programs for youth ages 3-12. These include diverse summer camps with themes such as art, sports, and dance. Community favorite classes such as cheer, ballet, art, and various sports are also available, providing a fun and engaging environment under the supervision of experienced staff. Activities for seniors are free and include a combination of fitness and creative classes such as painting, ceramics, line dance, and aerobics.
Athletics Programs
Adults looking to stay active and competitive can join sports leagues in volleyball, kickball, basketball, and softball. In addition, the City of McAllen offers programs in partnership with The Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) for golf, track, and tennis. These programs prepare athletes to become champions in various TAAF meets. There are also golf and tennis lessons available for both youth and adults.
Aquatics Programs
Comprehensive learn-to-swim programs are available for all age groups, from babies to adults. These programs aim to teach essential swimming skills and water safety. The aquatics division also offers beginner, intermediate, advanced, and elite preparation for the TAAF swim meets, ensuring swimmers of all levels have the opportunity to compete and excel.
Outdoor Recreation Programs
For those who love the outdoors, programs such as Intro to Kayak for both kids and adults, and Learn to Fish for kids, will be available. These activities aim to introduce participants to new skills and outdoor adventures.
