Treatment Breakthrough at DHR: Endoscopic Gallbladder Drainage Procedure in RGV

DHR Health Advanced Endoscopy Institute recently announced the introduction of Endoscopic Gallbladder Drainage to the Rio Grande Valley.

The first procedure of its kind was successfully performed on a female patient of advanced age at DHR Health.

Utilizing endoscopic ultrasound guidance, Dr. Juan Sanchez identified and accessed the gallbladder through the stomach, successfully placing a metal stent to alleviate inflammation and pain. Dr. Sanchez said this minimally invasive technique provides a critical alternative for treating Acute Cholecystitis when the gallbladder becomes inflamed or swollen, particularly for patients who are non-operative candidates.

The patient is doing great following post-operative appointments with Dr. Sanchez.
