Football Roundup Valley teams finish regular season, gear up for playoffs

It was the final week of the regular season for the Valley's squads in a year that proved memorable with teams leaving it all on the field.

PSJA 48, La Joya 0

PSJA quarterback Myles Lopez threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Bears finished their regular season with a perfect 5-0 district mark and 8-2 overall record with a 48-0 win over La Joya as PSJA caps the regular season with a district championship.

The Bears will play Harlingen in the first round of the UIL state playoffs on Thursday.

Lopez, a senior, completed 15-of-21 passes for 152 yards. He connected with Emiliano Fraga, Ryan Vallejo and Caleb Salas for touchdowns and the PSJA offense tallied more than 450 yards total.

PSJA led 41-0 at the half. Gabriel Ramirez had a big night on the ground, carrying the ball just five times for 187 yards and a pair of scores. He averaged 37.4 yards per carry on the night.

Cody Longoria collected 12 solo tackles and 18 total tackles to lead the rabid Bears defense.

Sharyland Pioneer 11, Mission Veterans 8

Pioneer gained just 132 yards total against the Mission Veterans defense, but kept the Patriots to just 8 points in the victory.

Pioneer will play Brownsville Lopez in the first round of the playoffs on Friday.

Andrew Rivera scored Pioneer’s lone touchdown offensively. Ezra Perez connected on a 34-yard field goal and Marcus Rauda had a safety to complete The Diamondbacks’ scoring. Meanwhile, Ryan Guerra registered a safety for Veterans and Roman Reyna found Jordan Rodriguez in the end zone for the Patriots’lone score.
