Hunting Fatality: Local nurse loses her life
The sad news started flowing over the weekend — local intensive-care registered nurse Hailey Isabel Jasso, only 23, a Pharr native, died in a hunting accident Friday up in Kenedy County, on the coast, just north of Willacy County.
In the company of some family members, somehow one of the rifles discharged, or at least that’s what some people are saying, even though an official report from the accident investigation has yet to be released.
With Friday’s tragedy comes the first hunting-related fatality of the white-tailed deer season, which kicked off Nov. 2.
The PSJA T-Stem high school grad chose nursing as a career and would later volunteer to work in the intensive-care unit, no less, of an area hospital where nursing the critically ill is often the most stressful.
Her maternal grandfather is Adan Farias, the long-term former Pharr City Commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem.
Memorial Funeral Home is handling her funeral services.
According to her obituary posted at Memorial’s home page, Hailey Isabel Jasso lived a life worth celebrating for her many accomplishments, achievements, and character:
