Local cities show increase in tax revenue
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.5 billion in local sales tax allocations for February, 9.4 percent more than in February 2024.
These allocations are based on sales made in December by businesses that report tax monthly; October, November and December sales by quarterly filers; and 2024 sales by businesses that report tax annually.
In case you're interested in how other Texas cities compared for the same reporting period, December 2023 vs. December 2024, Austin was up 6.74 percent, Brownsville down -0.20 percent, Dallas down -21.02 percent, El Paso up 14.66 percent, Houston down -20.39 percent, Laredo up 14.92 percent, and San Antonio up 10.95 percent.
