Pharr Community Theater to host acting workshops
Looking to refine your acting skills? Well, the Pharr Community Theater offers some solid help.
Pedro Garcia, co-founder and PCT artistic director, will host two acting workshops that cater to both the youth and adults. The workshops are designed to help aspiring actors focus on fundamental acting techniques, as well as provide them with opportunities to practice essential skills.
The two workshops are set for this weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the PCT. Saturday is for the Youth Workshop — ages 12 to 17 — from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. While Sunday’s workshop is for the adults — 18 and above — from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Be quick and vigilant, class sizes are limited to the first 25 participants.
The theater is located at 213 W. Park Ave. in Pharr.
“Participants will learn the basics of believable acting, drawing from both Method and Technique approaches,” the theater said in a release.
Sessions are set to include exercises that improve improvisation, audition preparation, résumé and headshot preparation, as well as offering practice with audition sides/monologues.
The workshops will be led by Garcia. The workshop leader and PCT director has an abundance of accolades under his acting belt as he has appeared in acclaimed productions. The local thespian has acting credits in works such as “Breaking Bad,” “Tejano,” “Fast Five,” and other independent films — including those produced right here in the Rio Grande Valley.
Those who are open and willing to improve will be offered constructive critique.
In addition, those who do participate are encouraged to bring their own monologue but it must be between 30 to 90 seconds. A short scene or dialogue between two people will suffice as well — two copies are recommended.
However, if one attends strictly to observe, they are inclined to do so, but must have a paid ticket.
The price of advance tickets are $25, plus a small surcharge and can be bought at www. pharrcommunitytheater.com or Eventbrite. If you pay at the door, it will be $30.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the theater since it is a nonprofit.

“Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from a seasoned professional and enhance your acting skills in a supportive environment,” the theater said.
