PVAS launches Chamber vs. Chamber Food Drive for National Pet Month

'Chow Down Showdown'

Give a dog a bone, or better yet, some food will purr-fectly do.

In commemoration of National Pet Month, Palm Valley Animal Society announced Tuesday the launch of their “Chow Down Showdown: Battle of the Chambers.” The event — which is a friendly but competitive pet food drive — will run from Monday to May 20.

PVAS said three local chambers will duke it out to see which one will be the crowned winner.

Even though March Madness is over, the competition is still alive and well, as the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, Edinburg Chamber of Commerce and the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will be in the contest.

Weekly donation pickups will take place every Friday until then — April 25, May 2, May 9, and May 16. For those wishing to donate, contributors will have to drop off the food at their respective chamber locations.

Whether it’s canned or dry food, PVAS will accept any donations as shelters are suffering from low food supplies. They will gladly accept anything — for dogs, cats alike.

“The chamber with the largest total donation by weight will earn the title of Golden Kibble Cup Champion, along with social media and newsletter recognition — and, of course, eternal bragging rights,” PVAS said in a release.

If any chamber is interested in joining the pack, they can do so during the first week from April

21 to 26. At the end of the week, chambers will be locked in as this year’s official competitors.
