San Juan lands first Chick-fil-A restaurant
Merit Commercial Real Estate sent out a news release this week to announce the addition of Chick-fil-A to Shops at Chavez in San Juan.
With its first franchise up and running in 1967, the family owned business now has more than 35,000 employees spread out across 48 states, with revenues reported in excess of $21 billion.
This new development brings one of the nation's most popular quick-service restaurants to a growing retail destination in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley. This is phase 2 of a multi-phase shopping center development that will ultimately see more than 125,000 square feet of new retailers and restaurants.
The expansion of Chick-fil-A into San Juan marks another milestone in Merit's mission to bring highquality, nationally recognized retailers and restaurants to communities across South Texas.
“Known for its customer service and beloved menu, Chick-fil-A will offer a convenient and family-friendly dining experience for residents and visitors alike,” reads the press release.
Merit Commercial Real Estate’s CEO, Will Collins, had this to say about the move into SJ:

San Juan Mayor Mario Garza said that bringing the well-known Chickfil- A to San Juan is a testament to the city’s momentum and continued economic growth.
“We’re proud to help create new opportunities and quality amenities for our residents,” said Garza.
San Juan City Commissioner and EDC (Economic Development Corp.) Board President Marco “Markie” Villegas said that job creation is always part of the city/EDC’s mission statement:
“The new Chick-fil-A will not only provide a fresh dining option but also contribute to local job creation and further retail growth in the area.”
Construction is expected to begin this summer, with an anticipated opening in the spring of 2026.
