Running the show: Week 6 has teams eyeing district crowns
It’s now or never for a lot of local football squads as district play is still in the running this week.
Here’s a recap of a couple of games this week.
PSJA Memorial, 20 Brownsville Rivera, 6
Man, you love to see it when a team gets their first win of the season.
Especially, when you know they can get a dub with the talent on their squad.
The PSJA Memorial Wolverines took home bragging rights as they beat the Brownsville Rivera Raiders, 20-6, at their house.
Senior Nolan Ramirez had 148 yards passing with a touchdown, he also proved he can do his job on the ground with a rushing TD as well. Junior Matthew Garza had himself three carries for 40 yards and a TD.
For Rivera, Senior Gabriel Gonzalez had the lone score for the Raiders.
PSJA Memorial faces Donna North this next game. The Raideres will battle Weslaco East.
Donna Redskins, 27 Donna North, 21
In this intracity rival matchup, the Donna Redskins took the win, 27-21, over the Chiefs.
For the Redskins, Luke Guerrero was solid on the night passing with a TD pass to Evan Rosales. For the Chiefs, Prince Johnson had himself a night with 21 carries and two touchdowns. He had 229 yards on the night.
The Redskins will face PSJA North this week. The Chiefs will play PSJA Memorial.
