All on the line: Week 7 has teams duking it out
As the seventh week of the high school football season finished this week, teams scrapped and showed they were ready for district play.
All eyes on the district crown, some may say.
Here’s a recap of a couple of games this week.
Harlingen shocks the Chargers in OT
This was a game that went down to the wire.
On a two-point conversion in overtime, the Brownsville Veterans Memorial Chargers went for the dub but were stopped at the one-yard line which gave the Cardinals a district dub, 40-39.
Noah Huerta gave the Cardinals a push near the end of regulation as he rushed in for a touchdown to send the game into overtime. Huerta had a big night for him as he carried the ball 31 times for 179 yards.
QB Hassan Woolery, a sophomore, has slowly been finding his rhythm this season.
Woolery threw 7-10 on the night with two touchdowns. The longest was 55 yards.
The Chargers were fans of the running game as three different players hit the ground for their respective touchdowns.
The Cards have a bye week, while the Chargers play Brownsville Hanna this week.
Mustangs make plays matter against McHi
In this intracity rival matchup, the McAllen Memorial Mustangs took the dub from the McHi Bulldogs, 35-21.
Running back Braxton Speights had a solid game for the Mustangs as he carried the ball 23 times on 297 yards. He had three touchdowns on the night.
For the Bulldogs, McCoy Wolthoff has one touchdown passing on 129 yards. He also carried it on the ground for a score.
The Mustangs play Juarez-Lincoln, and McHi plays Palmview this week.
