Truth be told, lying is the vehicle of all sins
John 14:6, Jesus said to Thomas, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Jesus said , in essence, I am the embodiment of all Truth and if you are going to heaven, you have got to believe my claim and commit your life to My Truth.
But Israel would not listen to Jesus 2000 years ago, much like America today. Why? Because since Adam, the world-atlarge has swallowed hook, line and sinker Satan’s big lie, a lie so sweet-sounding and so seductive, that even good and righteous people succumb to it and turn away from God. Genesis 3:1-5, Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And Satan said to the woman, “Has God indeed said ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?’” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, lest you die.’” And the serpent (satan) said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you will eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Satan using the word “evil” makes me nauseous.)
Without a doubt, many Americans today would place this story of the serpent and Eve on the same level as King Arthur and the Knight of the Round Table, a notch or two above Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I’ll take my chances believing the book of Genesis is straight from God through the hand of Moses. And in verse five is the big lie, the satanic lie that the spiritually selfish and rebellious love to hear, “... you will be like God...”
When our pride causes us to change places with God, enshrining our truth on the throne of our lives, watch out! Lies by the basket full are around the corner. Lies! Lies! Told because our pride made our truth the only truth, and therefore we become lord god of our lives. (... “ you will be like God...”).
If pride is the root of all sin, lying is the vehicle of all sin. No sin can ever be accomplished without lying - to others, to yourself, to God. Lies are like the domino theory. One lie produces another... produces another... produces another. The lies never stop.
Furthermore, there are lies of speech and lies of silence. Lies of speech are deliberate and sometimes done almost unconsciously, as if one is careless about truth. Lies of silence give approval to evil and withhold warnings needed to fight evil.
Psalm 120:1&2, In my distress I cried to the Lord and He heard me. Deliver my soul, O’Lord, from lying lips and a deceitful tongue.
What do you call a person who tells the truth ninety-nine percent of the time? A liar, and a liar is of no help to a person seeking the truth.
Ephesians 4:25, ...each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neigbor, for we are all members of one body.
Lying undermines our freedom and unity in Christ. Lying to each other disrupts unity by creating conflicts and destroying trust. Lying tears down relationships and leads to open warfare in a church.
Loving Jesus and His Truth more than anything in your life will give you victory over the source of lies, which is pride. When Jesus is Lord of your life, you will be set free from the inevitable vicious circle that lies lead to.
How can any of us have a personal, intimate and meaningful relationship with our Savior and our Lord if lies are part of our nature and character? God will not be mocked by a life of lying.
What do you call a man who tells the truth ninety-nine percent of the time?
A liar.
