Oklahoma City slips by the RGV Vipers in season opener
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (0-1) lost their home opener to the Oklahoma City Blue (1-0) on Friday, 116-114.
It was a game where the Vipers were off to a solid start after the first quarter when they built themselves a 37-30 lead. However, the third quarter proved crucial as the Blue outscored the Vipers by 16 points. The Vipers after that struggled to cut the deficit.
Guard Daishen Nix led the offensive effort for the Vipers as he tacked on a game-high 45 points. He also dished out 8 assists and pulled in 5 rebounds during the game.
This is his second stint with the Vipers as he first played with them back in the 2021-2022 season when the Vipers ultimately won the championship.
Kevin Harris, another guard for the Vipers, pulled in 19 points of his own. He also had 5 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.
On the other side of things, the Blue played 10 players, with nine of them putting up points.
Malevy Leons and Jazian Gortman both put up 22 points against the home team. Together, they racked up 9 rebounds and 6 assists.
The Vipers will regroup and get ready for Thursday’s home game against the Texas Legends in Edinburg.
